Cross Country Teams Chosen 2nd and 4th in GLIAC Preseason Poll

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the 2025 men's and women's cross country preseason coaches poll on Thursday afternoon.

The Cardinal men collected one first-place vote and totaled 71 points to place second in the poll behind Grand Valley State. SVSU was four points ahead of fourth-place Michigan Tech (67 points). Wayne State fell to fourth with 53 points and was seven points ahead of Parkside to round out the top five. Ferris State (42 points) was sixth, while Davenport and Lake Superior State finished in seventh and eighth with 37 and 23 points, respectively. Purdue Northwest was ninth with 21 points, and Roosevelt rounded out the poll.

The Cardinal men look to extend their streak to five-straight NCAA Division II Championship appearances. This year's squad is led by a group of veterans in Dominic Suliman, Jack Lobodzinski, Corey Bowers, and Nick McArdle.

On the women's side, the Cardinals fell just three points shy of third-place Wayne State to secure fourth place in that poll with 77 points. Grand Valley State topped the chart with 100 points and 10 of the 11 first-place votes. Parkside was second with one first-place vote and 84 points. Michigan Tech was behind SVSU with 65 points, and Northern Michigan fell to sixth with 56. Ferris State (49 points) topped Davenport (32 points). Lake Superior State (26 points), Purdue Northwest (25 points), and Roosevelt (11 points) finished off the poll.

The 2025 team is young, but has some veteran returners in Alexis Tracy and Karissa Picard. Jenna Sweeney is another returner who gained valuable experience a season ago and will look to help the team make another appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship.

The SVSU cross country teams begin the 2025 season at Wayne State on Friday, September 12.
