Women’s Golf Sits in Third After Day One of GLIAC Championships

AUGUSTA, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University women's golf opened the GLIAC Championships on Saturday, April 18 with two rounds at Stonehedge Golf Course. The Cardinals sit third out of eight teams after posting rounds of 307 (+19) and 309 (+21) for a total of 616 (+40).

Marissa GeRue leads SVSU with a two-round total of 149 (+5). She opened with a 73 (+1) to sit tied for first after round one before carding a 76 (+4) in the second round. GeRue currently sits seventh out of 41 golfers.

Averie Pumford is two strokes behind, tied for eighth at 151 (+7) after rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3).

Christina Nagy and Andie Martin are tied after both shooting rounds of 79 (+7) on the day for a total of 158 (+14). Alivia Ligrow rounded out the lineup with rounds of 80 (+8) and 81 (+9) to finish at 161 (+17).

As a team, SVSU ranked second on par fours on the opening day, shooting +19 with an average of 4.32 strokes per hole. The Cardinals also recorded the most pars in the field with 117 and tied for the fewest bogeys with 45.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley returns to Stonehedge Golf Course on Sunday, April 19 for the third round of the GLIAC Championships. The top two teams following round three will advance to the medal match play final. The Cardinals sit 13 strokes behind Grand Valley and 16 strokes back of leader Ferris State.
