AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's golf program concluded its GLIAC Championships on Saturday at Stonehedge Golf Course. The Cardinals moved up one spot as a team in round two, finishing stroke play in fifth place and missing the semifinal cut by just one spot.
Brook Herbstreit and Megan Thiravong both shot 77 (+5) in the final round, with Herbstreit moving up three spots to finish 14th out of 48 competitors and completing stroke play with a 154 (+10) total. Thiravong subbed in for her first round of the tournament. Hannah Hauser moved up five spots and tied for 19th, recording another 79 (+7) in her second round to finish with a 158 (+14). Christina Nagy followed in the team scoring with an 83 (+11) and posted a 160 (+16) for the weekend. Andie Martin rounded out the team with a 90 (+18) on Saturday, paired with her 79 (+7) from Friday, for a two-round total of 169 (+25).
The Cardinals finished sixth in scoring on par threes and par fours, and fourth on par fives, shooting 3.38 (+23), 4.57 (+34), and 5.42 (+25) respectively. SVSU totaled 13 birdies and 91 pars, placing sixth and fifth on those leaderboards.
Up Next: The Saginaw Valley women's golf team now looks ahead to Monday, April 28, for the NCAA DII Regional Selections. Regional tournaments will take place from Monday, May 5, through Wednesday, May 7, with the NCAA DII Championships set for Tuesday, May 13, through Saturday, May 17, at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
