UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State continued to battle Thursday night against Michigan Tech, showing defensive effort and rebounding toughness despite a 59-40 GLIAC setback at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

The Cardinals competed from start to finish, matching the Huskies on the glass with 36 rebounds and forcing 15 Michigan Tech turnovers. SVSU's activity on the defensive end led to 10 steals and limited second-chance opportunities.

After Michigan Tech built a 28-17 halftime lead, SVSU responded with renewed energy coming out of the locker room. The Cardinals attacked the paint and created extra possessions with offensive rebounds while continuing to apply pressure defensively. SVSU closed the night with a strong fourth quarter, but the Huskies won each quarter to continuously build their lead.

Lydia Meredith (Portland, Mich. / Portland St. Patrick's HS) led the Cardinals with 11 points, while Meijer Player of the Game, Lauren Borsenik (Hemlock, Mich. / Hemlock HS), delivered an efficient all-around performance with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go along with six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Kacie Bush (Columbia, Tenn. / Morristown HS) provided a lift off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers for six points, and Lainey Yater (McDonald, Pa. / South Fayette HS) controlled the boards with a team-high nine rebounds. Laynie Meredith (Portland, Mich. / Portland St. Patrick's HS) sparked the defense with five steals as SVSU consistently disrupted passing lanes.

Up Next: Saginaw Valley is back at home on Saturday when they host No. 13 Northern Michigan. The Cardinals and Wildcats tip-off at 1:00 PM for SVSU's Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
