Green's Double-Double Not Enough, Cardinals Fall to UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell to the University of Indianapolis tonight (Nov. 25) by a score of 73-54 in their first game at the UIndy Thanksgiving Classic.

Saginaw Valley was led by Meijer "Player of the Game" Cheritee Green (Wyoming Park, Mich.) who recorded her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Green shot 7-of-11 from the floor and converted both of her free throw attempts on the evening.

Kayla Womack (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./North HS) added 10 points and four boards, while freshman Samantha Zirzow (Goodrich, Mich.) chipped in with nine points and three rebounds for the Cardinals.

In the first half, the Cardinals shot 25.8 percent from the field and were paced by Green's eight points, as SVSU was never able to find its offensive rhythm. Saginaw Valley would head into the intermission trailing, 34-18.

The Greyhounds would build their lead to as many as 34 points in the second half, before Saginaw Valley would find some offensive consistency with just over 13 minutes to play in the game. SVSU would manage to close the gap to 19 points at the end of the game behind the second half scoring of Green, Womack and Kristen Greene (Brown City, Mich.).

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 0-3 overall on the season, while the Greyhounds improve to 2-2 overall. SVSU will return to action Saturday (Nov. 26) when they play Marian University at 5:30 PM in their second game of the UIndy Thanksgiving Classic.
