CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Saginaw Valley State track and field teams competed at the Lee Fast Break Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Cleveland, Tennessee. The men's and women's teams won two events to finish in the top three in the team standings. The men compiled 103 points to finish second, while the women totaled 69 points to also claim second. Host Lee University won both the men's and women's team point totals.
Xavier Santiago set a new Lee University record in the men's high jump when he won the event after clearing the bar at 2.14m. Sawyer Moloy was second after a clearance of 2.05m.
Noah Shaw won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 58.54m. Andrew Quinn finished just behind Shaw with a throw of 51.56m to place second. Quinn threw the shot put 17.55m to win the event and grab 10 points toward the team total, and was third in the men's discus throw with a mark of 43.89m for six more points. Shaw was fourth in the discus with a throw of 42.47m, and seventh in the shot put with a mark of 14.84m to earn two more points.
Darryl Carter finished second in the 200m with a time of 21.24 seconds, a personal best for him in the event. Samuel Meriweather placed fourth in the race with a time of 21.33, also a PR for him.
Brin Ciglenecki was the runner-up in the pole vault after making a clearance of 4.77m. Noah Thames placed sixth in the event after clearing the bar at 4.47m.
Trevor Culpepper was second in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.50 seconds. Matthew Gazzarato was fifth in the race with a time of 10.82 to earn four points.
SVSU scored two points in the men's 3000m steeplechase when Corey Bowers finished seventh with a new PR of 9:11.56.
The 4x100 relay team of Chaniya Madison, Marisa Johnson, Alicia Fields, and Katie Spicer won the race with a season-best time of 47.69 seconds to earn 10 points for the women's team.
Grace Collett won the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.53 seconds to collect 10 points for the team. Johnson finished second in the standings with a PR time of 14.62 to add eight points to the team total. Johnson also placed eighth in the 200m race with a time of 25.70, while Formsma tied for sixth in the women's high jump with teammate Kendell Wilcox at a height of 1.50m. Formsma was also seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.26m.
Timyah Meeks was third in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 48.30m. Janae Hudson was fifth in the event with a best throw of 45.79m. Hudson grabbed five points in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.54m. Meeks was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 12.50m for four points. Raine Redding was sixth for three points with a throw of 11.52m.
Abby Karst was eighth in the javelin throw with a best throw of 30.66m to give the Cardinals a point toward the team total. Spicer placed eighth in the 100m dash with a season-best time of 12.55 seconds to earn another point for the women's team.
Tori Henson jumped 5.25m to place eighth in the long jump. Sami Potts earned a point in the pole vault with an eighth-place finish after clearing the bar at 3.32m.
