UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University junior pitcher Macy Irelan was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week when the league office announced the awards on Monday afternoon.
Irelan had another fantastic week for SVSU. She started game one against Bridgeport where she tallied 10 strikeouts and earned her first win of the season going the distance for her third complete game of the Spring. She has registered at least 10 strikeouts per contest in her three starts this season. The junior transfer entered game two against the Purple Knights in the sixth inning with two runners on base and no outs. She recorded a SAC bunt, four straight strikeouts, and a flyout to earn her first save of the season. Her 14 strikeouts in two appearances brings her season total to 37 K's, which leads the GLIAC. She also has a K/7 mark of 11.95 which is currently sixth best in all of NCAA Division II.
The Cardinals compete in day two of the Spring Break games this evening with a game against Cedarville and another against Walsh. The first pitch for those contests are 5:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in Melbourne, Florida.
