UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University football team capped the 2026 Spring season with the Annual Spring Game on Friday evening inside the SVSU Fieldhouse. The Blue Team was victorious over White, 24-7 at the end of regulation.
"I was really excited about the energy. I thought the guys competed at a high level. At times, you saw what it's supposed to look like, but was really excited with what we saw," said Head Coach Michael Engle. "We wanted them to have fun and cut it loose a little bit. Trust what they know, trust their execution, and just go out and have a great time. I think you saw that with the energy from the sideline and on the field through the whole day."
All three Cardinal quarterbacks threw a touchdown pass, with Jayden Whitaker (Brownsburg, Ind. / Wofford College) tossing the first one from 10 yards out to JT Webber (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc HS) to give Blue the 7-0 lead.
Max Taylor (St. Joseph, Mich. / St. Joseph HS) hit a field goal from 40 yards out to extend the lead to 10-0 in the second quarter. The score would stay there through the brief halftime break.
Matt Vaughn (Stevensville, Mich. / Lakeshore HS) put the white team on the board with an 11-yard pass to Max Fellows (Essexville, Mich. / Garber HS) in the third.
Connor Wolf tossed a 44-yard pass to running back Israel Bradford (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mt. Healthy HS) to set up the next score for blue. Jaquan Howard (Chicago, Ill. / Bolingbrook HS) punched it in with a four-yard run to widen the gap to 17-7.
Wolf recorded his passing touchdown late in the second half with a 20-yard pitch to Mylek Lee (Inkster, Mich. / Romulus HS) to give the game its final score of 24-7.
The Cardinal defensive units also performed well, with the blue side recovering a fumble and defensive back Brandon Lewis (Lansing, Mich. / Lansing Catholic HS) picking off Wolf for the white team in the second half.
